Meeniyan-Promontory Road currently unsuitable for further truck traffic

The current access road to Fish Creek Quarries has a 1 star AusRAP road rating. it is inadequate now and it needs to be upgraded before a quarry expansion should be considered. Putting a NEW quarry on a 1-star AusRAP road isn’t just questionable — it’s reckless.

Australian road research shows heavy trucks don’t just “add traffic” — they dominate road damage. Because of the fourth power law, a single loaded truck axle can cause thousands of times more wear than a car. That means faster road degradation, more potholes, more edge failures — and a road that was already rated among the least safe becomes even more dangerous. Now add constant quarry truck movements: – Increased crash risk on an already unsafe road – Rapid pavement failure and higher maintenance gaps – More interactions between heavy vehicles and local traffic, cyclists, and school routes A 1-star road is already telling us something: this road is not forgiving of mistakes. Flooding it with heavy freight is the opposite of responsible planning — it’s knowingly amplating risk. Infrastructure decisions should reduce danger, not multiply it.
